FMCSA Lookup (fmcsalookup.com) is a web app for U.S. trucking companies, owner-operators, dispatchers and safety managers. It searches public safety records on U.S. motor carriers, roadside inspections, crashes, violations and citations, and turns them into clear answers: who a carrier is, what an inspection found, and how violations add up to CSA points. It works in any web browser, with nothing to install.
- Violation Lookup. Search 2,400+ violation codes by code or keyword and see each code's BASIC category and severity weight.
- Inspection points calculator. Add an inspection's violations, mark the out-of-service ones and get its weighted CSA points per BASIC, with the SMS cap of 30 applied. Save it or print it as a PDF report.

How are CSA violation points calculated?
Each violation has a severity weight of up to 10. An out-of-service violation adds 2, except in the Unsafe Driving and Controlled Substances/Alcohol BASICs. That weight is multiplied by a time weight: 3 if the inspection was in the last 6 months, 2 if it was 6 to 12 months ago, and 1 if it was 12 to 24 months ago. One inspection counts for at most 30 severity points in each BASIC before the time weight. FMCSA Lookup applies these rules for you.
